Historical Heritage
In the late paternal clan society, to
escape from the Danzhu Turmoil, Yushun, the leader of
ancient clans in China¡¯s history, went down south. He
gathered hundreds of officers in this place which then was
named ¡°Shangyu¡±. In 222BC, the 25th year of Qin Dynasty,
Shangyu was established as a county. So far, it has
experienced a history of over 2200 years.
The past two thousand years not only
witnessed tremendous changes and development in Shangyu,
but also nourished a large number of celebrities and
left us many valuable places of historic interest.
Many outstanding people came from here, such as Xie
An, a famous chancellor in East Han Dynasty, Wang
Yun, an ancient philosopher, Wei Boyong, the author
of his Taoist masterpiece ¡°Zhouyi¡±, Xie Lingyun, a
well-known ancient landscape poet and so on. Besides,
Shangyu is also famous in South of the Yangtze River¡±,
Zhujiazhuang and Chunhui Garden by the side of white horse lake. Enriched by all these historical heritages,
the city of Shangyu has shaped its unique cultures
and traditions, and is now aiming to develop itself
into a vigorous modern city.
