Hangzhou Bay Shangyu New Zone
Planning of Hangzhou Bay Shangyu New Zone:
East part ¨C the fine chemical industrial zone and port area. Total area planned at 80 square kilometers, including the current 18 square kilometers of developed area of Hangzhou Gulf Fine Chemical Zone.
Mid part ¨C the light industrial zone and regional logistic center. Total area planned at 60 square kilometers.
West part ¨Cthe textile industrial zone. Based on the textile industry of Xiaoshan and Shaoxing, the west part is planned to be a comprehensive industrial area, with a total area of 60 square kilometers.

Main Infrastructures
Roads : Three east-west roads and seven north-south roads are now under construction which will combine the New Zone with Shaoxing, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Taizhou and the downtown area of Shangyu closely together. A railway specially used for the Zone is under planning at present.
Shaoxing Crossing-sea Bridge : This bridge crosses over Hangzhou Bay with total investment of 6.5 billion yuan RMB. It starts from Shangyu-Sanmen Expressway in the south end and arrives at the junction of Hu-Hang-Yong Expressway and Zha-Jia-Su Expressway in the north. The bridge is to be completed by the end of 2007 through which it is only 1.5 hours of drive from Shangyu to Shanghai .
Koumen Gate : Koumen Gate is located at the conjunction of Cao'e River and Hangzhou Bay . This gate is also used as bridge and dike which makes it quite a comprehensive water engineering building. The gate will greatly improve the ecological environment of Hangzhou Bay New Industrial Zone, shipping, communication conditions.
Seaport : With the start of beach enclosuring project aims at forming an area of 55,000 Mu, Shangyu Port will be moved and enlarged to be the sole seaport in Shaoxing region. It is planned to be built into a port with 5,000-8,000 tonnage with a series of special use piers for shipping loose goods, containers and hazardous goods etc.
Hangzhou Bay Fine Chemical Zone , one of the three key provincial level chemical zones in Zhejiang Province was inaugurated in 1998, with a total long-term planned area of about 80 square kilometers. Currently, Phase I and Phase II construction, which cover 21 square kilometers in all, are coming to completion; and Phase III construction, which will expand the zone to a 54 square kilometers, is undergoing.

Since the establishment, it has invested 1.5 billion yuan RMB in infrastructures and the ground is leveled and the facilities in supply of water, electricity, steam, gas, and heat, in telecom, network and sewage treatment are completed. So far, more than 100 projects with capital from USA, Europe, Japan, Korea and domestic areas as well as 20 high-tech projects (such as state ¡°one excellent and two high-output project¡±, ¡°Torch program¡± and ¡°Demonstrated industrialized project¡±) have set up in the zone and thus it has become one of the largest fine chemical zones of the best prospect.
Government support:
In 2003, the government of Zhejiang Province decided to capitalize on the geo-economic advantages of Hangzhou Bay Area and develop it into a manufacturing powerhouse. The Hangzhou Bay Area is to be an active participant in the international division of labor and global industrial restructuring. Shangyu occupies a large part of the south bank of Hangzhou Bay . With the strong reinforcement from government, a large-scale modernized industrial area will come into being along the riverside in the years to come.
Target:
Shangyu New Industrial Zone is planned to be a high-tech industry hub, a regional logistic center, and an important port.
