Education Condition
The people of Shangyu consider education highly important
. Now there are all-together 105 primary schools, 33
junior middle schools, 11 general and vocational high
schools and 1 colleges. Among them includes 19 state-level
and provincial level schools. 51.4 thousand students
are studying in middle schools and 59.5 thousand in
primary schools. The compulsory education rate in the
city has reached 99.78 percent. Nourished
by such profound cultures and the tradition of emphasizing
education and respecting teachers, a number of great
people were cultivated here and eventually became
the proud of Shangyu, such as Wei Boyang (the author
of ¡°Zhouyi¡±), Xie An (320-385, a famous chancellor
in West Jin Dynasty), Zhang Xuecheng (1738-1801, a
famous historian), Hu Yuzhi (1896-1986, a writer and
translator), Zhu Kezhen (1890-1974, a first-class
meteorologist) and so on.
