Ecological Environment
Shangyu is fostering a tourism brand of “ecological,
leisure, & healthy”. This effort will help build
Shangyu into a modern riverside ecological-oriented
city with an area of 50 square km and a population of
500,000. It is becoming a backyard garden for people
from Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo to spend their holidays.
With fast economic development in the Yangtze River
Delta, the situation of shortage of fresh water in some
cities in this region is becoming tougher, yet there
is rich high-quality fresh water free of pollution in
Shanghu. The annual precipitation is 1,477 mm. After
completion of Koumen Gate at the end of Cao’e River,
this river, with flow of 3 billion cubic meters every
year, becomes a fresh water river for supplying more fresh
water.
